I've been trying to think of a way to nonchalantly mention this for the past week, but I haven't thought of anything, so I'm just going to blurt it out --

I am now a registered professional geoscientist with the State of Texas.

I'm a little embarrassed to mention it because our whole industry has been very ambivalant about this whole registration thing.

They sent me a really pretty certificate. I guess I'll get it framed, but I don't really have an empty space to hang it on my wall. Yet.

Also, I'm supposed to have a seal made so that I can stamp ... something. I'm not sure what.

Does anyone know where I can make my seal?

Associated Press: TV's 'Captain Kangaroo,' Bob Keeshan, dead.

"When Fred Rogers, the gentle host of ‘Mister Rogers' Neighborhood,’ died last year, Keeshan recalled how they often spoke about the state of children's programming, according to the AP. ‘I don't think it's any secret that Fred and I were not very happy with the way children's television had gone,’ Keeshan said."

> I was surprised to find out that Capt. Kangaroo was on the air up until ten years ago. He's a 1960's set piece for me.

> It's weird thinking back to the world of my childhood. It's like remembering an alternate universe. It gives me this dislocated feeling.

Houston Chronicle: Enron's former top accountant pleads not guilty to securities fraud, conspiracy.

"Causey became the top Enron accounting officer in 1996 and was responsible for accounting, financial reporting, taxes and transaction support, according to Enron bankruptcy documents."

> Rick Causey's father Cloy ran a research program at HARC for a couple of years; his office was a door down from mine.

> Cloy was always so proud of his son. I hope he's doing o.k.

A thirteen-year-old describes how he got a school suspension for using NET SEND --

Hey!

"When Mom and I left the office, Mom said, ‘Just so you know, you can enjoy your five day weekend. I think it was BS that they suspended you for that.’ (Mom didn't actually say ‘BS’...she said the real word.)"

CNN: Streakers were robbed.

"Three men who went streaking through a Denny's restaurant were chilled and chagrined when they spotted a thief drive off in their getaway car, their clothes inside. Naked in the 20-degree weather, the three young men huddled behind cars in a parking lot until police arrived."

I saw Return of the King at the movie theater yesterday afternoon. It was pretty good, but this football game was better --
